OVERVIEW
The goal of the QMS Equestrian Program is to produce knowledgeable, skilled, responsible, interactive members of the equestrian community, whether they ride competitively or for fun. Rider training focuses on Hunter, Jumper and Equitation, providing a sound base for every rider. Graduates of the QMS Equestrian program are seen as exceptionally well educated both in the saddle and in the barn.
PROGRAM OPTIONS
Equestrian Program Developments
Now more then ever QMS offers a range of opportunities for every riding student. From the serious competitor to the beginner rider we are committed to fun, safe riding. Educating students who wish to pursue a life with horses is a major priority.
RIDING LESSONS
Grades K - 12
For students interested in recreational riding or entry-level competition we offer the Learn to Ride Program. In small groups of students with similar levels of riding experience students ride once or twice a week. The emphasis is on fun and safety!
COMPETITIVE RIDING
Train To Compete 8-12
The “Train To Compete” program makes QMS the leading Equestrian School in Canada. We offer students an opportunity to fine-tune their riding and competition skills. Through lessons, clinics, shows, practical and theory sessions riders hone their skills. Riding her own horse or a leased horse the rider participates in a regular training regime with the intention of competing. There is an emphasis on excellence in sportspersonship, horse care and rider training.
EQUINE STUDIES
Equine Studies 11
Queen Margaret’s unique Equine Studies program is recognized by the Ministry of Education as a Grade 11/12 Credit course and is offered to qualified students enrolled in grades 10-12. We are proud to be the only school in Canada to offer this course.
Equine Studies 12
In Grade 12 Train to Compete riders participate in Equine Studies 12. In addition to riding lessons, theory and practical lessons students complete a 30 hours work experience and/or service unit. Students are encouraged to pursue a work experience/service unit that applies to their long-term equestrian goals. For example, students who wish to coach may participate in practice teaching at the equestrian centre and complete their EC Instructor 1 at the end of grade 12.
