An elementary boarding school is one type of a boarding school which caters to children whose ages are usually 7-13. Other countries call it primary education and it is normally six to seven years of continues schooling – from grades one to seventh grade. Many schools in the US and other progressive countries of the world are until the seventh grade. In Asia, it is only up to sixth grade and the students are ready to enter secondary education for another four years. Secondary education is also known in other countries as high school. This is also the years when students are prepared for college life.

Elementary boarding schools in the US are mushrooming in the suburbs as well as in remote places. Since this is now the most accepted type of educational program recent survey conducted show there are now more enrolment in boarding schools in America rather than traditional schools. Americans and naturalized US citizens that are busy with their respective jobs prefer to enrol their children in elementary boarding schools so that the school could also take care of their education needs even without their supervision. Elementary boarding schools could either be private or public boarding schools. Many of these schools are even private boarding and run by religious orders.

As far as the cost of boarding, students can choose weekly, monthly or full boarding and the rate varies. International students usually choose full boarding or home stay package since they come from foreign countries. For those that are only in their country where the school is located just a mile away from their homes they prefer monthly boarding so that they could go home every other month.

Just like any typical boarding school, elementary boarding schools are composed of several residential houses. Each house is composed of at least 50 students. There are rooms occupied by three students. Each of them has study table, separate beds but share a common toilet and bath. They also have common lounge where they can see television programs during leisure hours, kitchen and dining, library, gymnasium while bigger elementary boarding school have swimming pools and other facilities.
