The boarding school life differs a lot when you are attending a single-sex school like a girl private boarding school or if you are in a mixed boarding school. Studies have shown that the academic and social life of children from boy- or girl private boarding schools is much better than the children of mixed schools. The reason for this can be that there is less pressure in the classes and the children can concentrate much better when they are in separated classes. The boarding life of the separate schools also differs from the activities they are doing. A girl or boy from a mixed boarding school gets involved in all activities, whether it’s particularly for boys or particularly for girls. The dorms in mixed schools are separated. But the classes are mixed and most activities are also done together.
Other differences are between the boarding school for troubled teen and the normal private boarding school. The boarding life of the troubled teen is often much stricter because of the rules they have to obey. The school has these strict rules to teach the troubled teen to have more respect. Some boarding schools for troubled teen are also special military schools. Because on these schools the students will be taught how to work in a team, have discipline, but also leadership. Also the catholic boarding schools have stricter rules, because the staff tries to teach them the way of living according the rules of the catholic religion.
Even though there are specialized boarding schools which have some different rules and way of learning, the boarding life of the schools are basically the same. The children attend classes, eat together, and sleep in dorms where they normally have to share their room with another student of the boarding school. The boarding school life differs a lot from the children who attend a normal public school, because they will take classes and after the classes the ‘normal school’ students go back home again and spend their time with their family and friends. While the boarding school life continues the whole day, 24-hours.
If the children have problems with learning, they can always come to the teacher when they want. Of course not in the middle of the night, but their study day doesn’t end when the classes ends. They all live together with the students and the faculty staff and another advantage is that the students are more focused on their studies. In fact, it is not unusual for students to develop a close relationship with their teacher and turn to them as a friend as well as an educator. Being away from the family home, students will sometimes have worries and it is the teachers, who have had an immense amount of experience dealing with teenagers (often more than the average parent!), who are leant upon in times of need. It is for this reason, events such as Teacher Appreciation Day 2008 will be celebrated very much in style throughout the world’s boarding schools. It is a chance for the pupils to come together and show their gratitude to their teachers – their confidants, educators and advisors.
There are also many activities organized at the boarding school. This can be in the athletic fields, playing in team-sports, but also activities like watching TV together, or doing outdoor activities, like sailing, hiking, or any other activity. Most of the boarding schools also have social groups, which includes a painting club, or for a school band, etc. It all depends on the boarding school itself and the place where the school is located. But eventually it doesn’t really matters if you go to a special boarding school for only girls, boys, or a boarding school for troubled teen, the boarding school life is always a lot of fun.
