You want to be admired and respected in your high school. Here are some useful tips for you.
Do’s and dont’s
If you want to gain the respect of your schoolmates, do not be annoying and be intelligent. Try not to be disrespectful of others and learn to treat others the way you want to be treated. If someone asks you for help, help him without asking anything in return. Do be modest, people do not like ‘showoffs’. Learn to accept compliments naturally as well as return them graciously. After people see that you speak modestly about yourself, they will start to compliment you. Avoid to attack or offend others either in verbal or physical way. If you are offended and have to react, try to stick on the defensive to make your offender look bad. Should it be difficult to survive in some public schools, returning the insult is never the best thing to do.
Learn to accept criticism, because it is the best way to get on in a community. Constructive criticisms may be very enriching unless they start to affect your reputation. If someone tries to damage your reputation, take action to clear your name. Do everything you possibly can to be extraordinary and try hard to rise up above the others. Go above and beyond!
Do not let people walk all over you. Avoid being rude to your classmates for no reason, but do not accept someone to do it to you. Stand for yourself! Learn to be critical of your close friends. Some of them will probably disappoint you, others may start to hang out in different social circles. You do not have to cut yourself off from your friends; you just have to remember not to tell them anything that you would not want the whole school knowing. Do not do things you are not comfortable with no matter what. If you do not feel like having a drink or going out, that is okay.
Try hard to be an active participant in classes. Make sure your voice is heard and try to give the right answers. Do not ask many questions; at least avoid asking too many questions in front of the entire class. If it is possible save them for the end of the period and then ask your teacher after the classes. Stay on top of your homework. Sometimes it might be boring doing it but it is better for you in the long run. It would not be funny if you have to repeat semesters.
Warnings
Avoid at all costs getting into trouble or getting suspended, if you do not want to be sent to a military school. Found someone you can trust to talk to. It could be a parent, a relative, a counselor. Do not cut yourself off the world when you get down!
Taking exams can be very stressful if you have not studied during the term. With a little time management during the school year, you not only avoid stress and anxiety, but also maximize your productivity and results. No more cramming for each test and studying late into the night. Here are some tips to create good study habits in high boarding schools.
• Have an extra notebook for each subject so that as you finish a chapter in class you can immediately write down notes and summaries in that book. This is the best way to keep your class work in your mind so at exam time you only will have to read your notes instead of complete chapters.
• Learn how to make mind maps and use other memory aids. Mind maps are graphical illustrations of subjects and are of great use especially during exams.
• Read some extra information about the topics you have finished. Take out books from the library, use all the available internet resources about the subject. It is important to take notes so that you can refer back to them before and at test time.
• Make a timetable for exam days by marking the dates on a calendar and prepare yourself as the test approaches.
• Make a sampling list of all your classes and the topics you learn at school. After you finish to study a topic put a check mark next to it in order not to forget which of them have already been studied.
• Set aside a fix study frame during which to prepare your classes. Do not procrastinate your homework. Do not study too long and remember to take a break between two subjects.
• Set a study group with other students so that you can share your notes; discuss your thoughts and ideas. Together you can easily understand or solve different problems.
• Do not stay to study late into the night, get enough sleep. It is difficult to concentrate the next day if you have not sleep at least six hours the night before.
• Do not panic on a test day. If you have prepared yourself for the exam during the term, you should expect a high mark.
