Tougher Rules in Boarding Schools Urged

Apr Wed 1st, 2009 by outsourcing

To protect the child from online abuses, the boarding schools in UK are now urged to undertake tougher measures. The internet rules are now sought by a concerned group after hearing several stories of children being abused online.

As this developed, boarding schools are ordered to review student’s mobile phones as well as their internet usage for fears they might be at risk or “abused” online unknowingly. There are, however, recommendations from top officials to make an overhaul of rules as far as the student’s access online.

The report revealed that the existing minimum standards in boarding schools in many schools world wide are now very old since it was last revised in 2002 – and it really needed revision. The Department of Children, Schools and Families who made an earlier inquiry on the matter also encourage independent institutions to include in the registration international pupils in the database for controversial ContactPoint. It said that the directory should list the parental address, birth and other important information it can get from a child. Even a teacher appreciation program in many schools cannot give enough reason to believe the students also learn many things in schools.

Sir Roger Singleton, chair of the Independent Safeguarding Authority said he was tasked to probe standards of care in the country’s 2,000 independent schools. He said majority of the institutions have complied with law but the report said it was yet be listed as “universal.” The report cited that children are at risk when they are not properly guided by the parents and the teachers during the time they use the internet. This is clear that they are in danger instead of being groomed online. There is really a substantial increase to believe that online is very risky for unattended young students. It is only sad to note that other sectors also blamed the emergence of internet to the moral degeneration of our children. Whether the observations of other concerned groups are true or not, there is really present danger online for our kids. The pornography issue, violent games and movies and other disadvantageous stuffs really made the students at risk.
