Boarding School – Just the start of your travels!
Feb Wed 27th, 2008 by admin
One of the major concerns children have before starting boarding school is that they will be living away from the family home and the family comforts. Never long into the first term, this worry is usually overcome – the pupils make friends, become accustomed to a more independent life and their focus on education and dedication to extra-curricular activities leaves little time to get homesick! In fact, this first step away from the comfort zone of living with ones parents is often the first of many steps to a fulfilling, exciting and adventure-filled life!
Once having experienced a little independence and realised their confidence and ability in new situations, students often find they want to move on even further. This could be arranging a gap year before university, travelling the world and experiencing life in a variety of new cultures or, learning about a specific culture and working hard to set up a life within it. The latter decision, though perhaps only carried out later in life, is a desire often prompted by an experience early in a schooling career, in a language class for example. Having learnt Spanish say, on visiting Spain the pupil will find themselves to be capable of integrating into the culture and lifestyle, a lifestyle which the pupil may even prefer to their own!
Should this be the case, setting up a life abroad should present little problem to a boarding school graduate. To continue our example further: perhaps on leaving school, the Spanish student has an interest in pursuing a career in medicine. The confidence he/she will have gained from living away from the family home during their boarding school career means applying for cursos enfermeria auxiliar distancia will be something for the pupil to relish and look forward to, not to fear and worry about.
Having the confidence to venture outside of one’s comfort zone is the key to success in many aspects of life. Confidence in oneself comes from taking risks, thinking positively about the consequences and thus having good experiences to look back on – all of which in turn boost confidence further.
Boarding school is an opportunity to learn about oneself, to focus on education and gain a confidence in independ.
